Erica Crompton is the author of The Mind Surfer (2022) and co-author of The Beginner's Guide to Sanity with Professor Stephen Lawrie (2020).

Erica holds a master’s degree in creative writing and an undergraduate degree in fine art and journalism.

She runs a small magazine called Hopezine with her boyfriend, covering inspiring stories of people overcoming adversity with disabilities, suicidal thoughts, and prison sentences.

She lives in an accessible bungalow in Staffordshire with her two adopted cats, Caspar and Winter

History with the Condition

Erica was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia in 2010 and psychosis in 2002.

She works part-time around managing her illness and caring for her tetraplegic partner (he's a wheelchair user).

Erica has written about living with a severe mental illness for The Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, The Mail on Sunday, and The Guardian. However, she’s also an avid fashion writer. In this capacity, she has penned pieces for The Daily Telegraph, Nylon, Vice, and Vogue.co.uk.

Erica also writes regular lifestyle articles for The Daily Star in the UK.
