At Teva, we’re shaping the future of healthcare by advancing innovative medicines, pioneering complex generics and biosimilars, and fueling progress through research, collaboration, and a strong company culture.

Shaping the Future of Medicine through Innovation & Collaboration

The global healthcare industry is undergoing rapid transformation, and Teva Pharmaceuticals is at the forefront of this change. As our growth continues, we are developing innovative medicines for the future, while also championing the production of complex generics and biosimilars to meet diverse patient needs.

Chris Fox, EVP of US Commercial, and Eric Hughes, MD, PhD, EVP of Global R&D and Chief Medical Officer, joined Endpoints News to showcase how Teva is discovering and developing the next generation of medicine through cutting-edge research and innovation, fueled by a thriving company culture and exciting global collaborations.

Innovative Approaches to R&D

“It’s a very exciting time to be at Teva, where there’s been a complete mindset shift, particularly in R&D,” says Eric. “We’ve got a little bit of everything: generics, which is our powerhouse and heritage, a burgeoning biosimilars portfolio that we're developing through partnerships, and a great innovative pipeline.”

He is particularly excited about three major programs currently in development: treatments for schizophrenia, asthma, and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), which are driving innovative growth.

Partnerships that Power Progress

For Eric, partnerships are not just strategic, they are essential. With a background in HIV and hepatitis C drug development, he discovered the benefits of collaboration early in his career. “In those disease areas, we quickly learned that combination therapies and partnerships were necessary. At Teva, we’ve really leaned into that mindset.”

From a commercial perspective, Chris Fox emphasizes the role partnerships play in Teva’s biosimilars strategy. “We want to develop a broad, global portfolio and recent partnerships are allowing us to increase the availability of affordable medicines more efficiently and effectively.”

Aligning R&D with Market Needs

Teva’s approach to ensuring that innovation aligns with market demands is rooted in both structure and culture. “It’s not just about structure but also about building a culture that supports innovation,” Eric says. “Teva already has a fantastic culture, and that has been key to driving the change.”

He emphasizes the importance of understanding the unmet medical need when designing R&D programs. “Drug development is complicated and requires many disciplines working together in an equal and balanced way. The magic happens when R&D and commercial organizations are aligned, when everyone is focused on a common goal.”

Chris echoes this sentiment and highlights the importance of access. “We have to think about access from the very beginning and ensure that our innovations meet patient needs.”

She also draws attention to what she calls one of Teva’s “secret powers” — understanding the patient journey. “Having great science is one thing, but does it solve an unmet medical need? Can we market it and get it into the hands of patients? A deep understanding of the patient journey is key to our success.”

Culture That Fuels Innovation

Maintaining a culture of innovation requires intentional, consistent effort. “It’s something you do every day, every week, every year,” Eric explains. “Even when you think you’ve got it right, you keep bringing it up. Culture doesn’t stand still.”

For him, culture is not just about mindset, it’s about purpose. “I’m a geeky scientist who loves using science to help patients. That’s my purpose in life. When people come to work excited, not dragging themselves in, that’s when you know the culture is working.”

Chris agrees. “We have strong leadership principles but living them every day is what counts. When people understand how their work connects to the broader mission, you see it—in their energy, in their passion. That’s something you can’t manufacture.”

Looking to the Future

As Teva continues to innovate and build strategic partnerships, we are well-positioned to shape the future of healthcare. The drive for innovation and improvement is central to everything we do, from cutting-edge R&D to our legacy in generics and biosimilars.

Through a combination of research, innovation, culture and collaboration, Teva is shaping the next generation of medicine while addressing critical patient needs. By embracing both our past and future, we are committed to improving the lives of patients globally.
