Looking Ahead to a Greener Future

Going Green

The start of a new year is a time to reflect and look toward the future. For Teva, that means thinking about how we improve patients’ health—how we make medicines available to those who need them. It also means thinking about how we improve the health of our planet, which is inherently linked to the health of those who inhabit it.

We know this is on our employees’ minds, too. That’s why we’re launching "Go Green Together"—a campaign highlighting simple changes we can all make to help protect our planet. Small actions in our daily lives, such as turning off the lights, choosing a reusable cup or thinking twice before printing, can add up. As we enter 2023, we’ll be sharing tips, hosting conversations and exchanging ideas among our colleagues in the hopes of creating long-lasting green habits.

We’re excited about this because we know how much protecting the environment matters to our employees. They are the ones finding unique, innovative ways to reduce our footprint in the work we do every day. For example, one of our Chile sites is using 100 percent renewable energy—the first Teva location in South America to fully make this transition. Our site in Ulm, Germany is producing and using renewable energy with solar panels. In Malanpur, India, where we make ingredients for our medicines, we are reducing water use and reusing water where possible. And in the Netherlands, we are making our catering and canteen services more sustainable and using fully electric company vehicles—two initiatives we hope to expand globally.

All of these actions across our company add up to make a big impact. From 2019 to 2021, we reduced direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions by 13% (more than half of our 2025 target), improved energy efficiency by 6%, and reduced waste from operations and water withdrawal in areas projected to be in water stress by 8%.

The environmental challenges facing our world can be daunting, but by taking concrete action—as a company and as individuals—we can be a part of creating a healthier, more sustainable future.
