EHS Excellence Awards Celebrate Progress Toward Target Zero

In 2012, we established our global environment, health and safety aspiration—Target Zero: zero injuries, zero incidents, zero releases. Teva’s target is zero when it comes to workplace health, safety, spills and accidental discharges. Our annual Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Excellence Awards recognize teams and projects around the globe that promote a healthy workplace, increase personal safety and reduce our company’s environmental footprint. The number of applications submitted to this awards program has steadily increased over the past few years, with an impressive array of initiatives that reflect our commitment to action in this realm.

The 2017 EHS award winners below demonstrate how teams across Teva worldwide are driving sustained EHS improvements for a safe and healthy workplace that fosters environmentally responsible practices.

EHS Culture Building: Teva’s Waterford, Ireland site team conducts two unique programs that build EHS culture internally and in the community. A “Career Bridge” job rotation program gives colleagues the opportunity for a short-term duration assignment in EHS to gain a better understanding of EHS standards and activities. The “Safety Beyond our Walls” program enabled Teva colleagues to offer their EHS expertise to a local community college, working with the school administrators to instruct on safety standards in the handling and storage of chemicals--practices we follow daily at Teva.

Environment: The TAPI team in Croatia found a way to recover enough waste heat from production processes to meet the heating requirements of two other buildings using steam heat, reducing the plant’s overall CO2 emissions and lowering energy consumption.

Health: Colleagues at the vial check station in Kfar Saba, Israel, worked with a team of ergonomic experts to design a working desk model that helped reduce back strain. Colleague-driven assessments of other work stations and processes are underway.

Safety: The team in Dupnitsa, Bulgaria minimized risk by relocating a number of hard-to-reach valves and measurement equipment to improve the surrounding workspace and ensure safe access.

Ongoing initiatives like these are now being shared as part of the 2018 (EHS) Excellence Awards program, reinforcing our commitment to acting sustainably, treating our employees and our environment with respect and nurturing a world where people everywhere can enjoy healthier, better days.
