It's All About Building Our Talent and Making Global Connections: Teva's Development Program

Behind the
Scenes

Teva’s Site Quality Head Development Program offers new tools and creates a consistent mindset among those who drive our high quality standards around the world. In doing so, the program creates strong connections and facilitates collaboration and support within our manufacturing and supply network.

Every day at Teva, we help improve the lives of 200 million patients all over the world. As a global company, we have manufacturing sites in many countries and continents, and we make sure that wherever we are, we maintain rigorous quality and compliance standards. It’s our obligation to the customers, healthcare professionals and patients who rely on Teva medicines.

How do we live up to these standards? In many ways. One of them is by continually enhancing the capabilities of a key group of leaders within our Global Quality function – Site Quality Heads (SQH).

Liron Weissbazak says the program was "a true blessing"

Site Quality Heads are responsible for leading, coaching and supporting the implementation of Teva Quality Management Standards at every site in our manufacturing and supply network. Regardless of where they operate, they find themselves taking key product quality decisions, similar to their peers, on a daily basis.

For them, Teva’s Site Quality Head Development Program, a tailor-made initiative launched last year, was "a true blessing," as Liron Weissbazak, SQH at Teva’s Goa, India site, describes.

This development program, now in its second edition, is part of the company's long-range Learning & Development strategy, one that focuses on Teva's people, their growth and capabilities, and their connections with peers from across the company.

"This specific program was developed especially for our Site Quality Heads. This is a group of leaders that is spread across the world and has critical importance to ensuring our high quality standards," says Ofri Haggai, Global Quality and Environment, Health, Safety, & Sustainability (EHS&S) Human Resources Business Partner, who led the creation of the program. "When putting the program together, we took the Site Quality Head job profile and mapped it to the most important skills required to be successful in this role. By providing these professionals new opportunities and tools to connect with each other and learn, we believe they will be in an even better positon to share their knowledge, develop and lead their teams."

Elements of the Program

The program includes general meetings, where topics such as Operational Excellence (OpEx), decision-making and risk management are discussed, as well as smaller working groups that allow participants to openly learn, talk and consult their colleagues on a variety of leadership aspects. "Focusing on regulations, quality and compliance was very important for me, and I enjoyed the learning very much," says Ruud Smit, who has been part of Teva for the past 36 years and is currently heading Quality at Teva's Haarlem, Netherlands site.

"I liked connecting with colleagues from different sites and disciplines," he adds. "Our backgrounds vary, but we face many similar situations and it was interesting to see how they were being addressed by my colleagues."

"Many times we need to take action ourselves on site and lead with direction," summarizes Salimatou Dauphin, Senior Director of Europe External Manufacturing & Supply Operations Quality. "With this program, I found a place to connect and benefit from Teva's huge network."
