Sigal Ben Yair

2011 Winner

​Born in Haifa (1970) and raised in Givat Nesher. She  holds a bachelor’s degree  in Archeology from the University of Haifa and an M.A. in comparative Hebrew Literature. In addition, Ben Yair is a graduate of the Helicon School of Poetry.

 

During the last decade, she published dozens of pieces of poetry in the literary journals “MIta’am”, “Helicon”, “Iton 77” and “Moznaim “ and also took part in anthologies. In 2008 and 2009, she participated in the “Shaar Leshira Hadasha” festival and in 2010 in the “Meter al Meter” festival in Jerusalem. At the beginning of 2011, her first book of poetry, “Unrefined”, was published by Helicon.

 

Ben Yair works for a living as a graphic designer and secretary. She is the mother of two daughters and lives in Haifa. 

In 2011, she won the Teva Prize for Poetry, awarded at the Metula Poetry Festival (the prize was shared between her and Nadav Liniel).
